Hi.  My name is Shara Roden. I am your child's counselor. My primary goal is to help your child have a successful school experience.  I work with students, their families, school staff and community members in the implementation of the school counseling program which supports student's academic, personal, social and emotional development.  I am excited to begin my 24th year in education. In addition to SSISD, I have served as a Classroom Teacher, Elementary Music Teacher and School Counselor in Celina ISD, Pilot Point ISD, Frisco ISD and Lake Dallas ISD. I graduated with my bachelors from Texas Tech University, Masters in Counseling from Lamar University and studied Educational Leadership at Texas A&M University Commerce.  I love working with children in all capacities and building relationships with others.  I am married with 2 daughters, Charli (12 years old) and Chesley 9 years old). I love spending time with family and friends, singing, traveling, watching the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and of course the Red Raiders!
My mission as school counselor is to serve as an advocate to all students. My goal is to support and encourage students to reach their academic, personal, social and emotional potential. I will partner with teachers, parents and the community while delivering a guidance program that is preventative and developmental in nature. I will work to create a safe and positive environment that assists students in gaining the skills and knowledge needed to become problem solvers and responsible citizens in the 21st Century.

At SSES we believe in the importance of helping your child meet his/her social emotional needs. I work with students both in and outside of the classroom to assist with this. This includes facilitating character development lessons and helping students learn the skills to identify, self-regulate and manage their emotions. When our students' social emotional needs are met, they are best able to focus on learning academic skills.

As a parent, you can support your child’s SEL growth at home too! Please join my REMIND to connect with me (text @rodenco to 81010).  I would also love for you to join me each month for “Coffee with the Counselor.” Our next date is Oct. 21st. Please fill out this quick parent survey by scanning the QR code below to help me guide future session topics and times for these events.

I look forward to meeting you and helping your child have a successful experience here at SSES!

Sincerely,

Shara Roden

Why Elementary School Counselors?

Elementary school years set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, counselors work as a team with the school staff, parents and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere. By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, school counselors can help all children achieve academic success.
