Meet the Counselor

Hello. My name is Emily Faircloth. It is an absolute blessing and privilege to be your child's school counselor. My primary goal is to help your child have a successful school experience. I work with students, their families, school staff, and community members in the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program which supports all students' academic, personal, social, and emotional development.

From raising my own children to working with students of a variety of ages and across multiple settings, I wholeheartedly believe in the power of teachable moments embraced by the healthy and purposeful curiosity and wonder of every child. These moments help foster growth and creativity and provide an opportunity for children to discover their wonderfully-unique gifts and abilities.

I received a Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree from Sam Houston State University in 1999 with teaching certificates in both Health Education and English. I then received a Master of Arts graduate degree in Counseling from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 2012.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Brandon, and our two teenagers, Cooper and Rowan Kate, as well as our extended family. I also enjoy spending time in nature outdoors, writing, watching sports, and exercising.

We are Bowie Primary School.

We are RESPECTFUL.

We are RESPONSIBLE.

We are SAFE.

We are KIND.

At Bowie Primary, we believe in the importance of helping your child meet his/her social and emotional needs. We work together to create a safe and positive learning environment for all students. As their counselor, I will work with students both in and outside of the classroom to assist with their social and emotional learning (SEL). This includes facilitating character lessons and helping students grow and learn important life skills such as: motivation, conflict resolution, self-regulation, altruism, emotional maintenance, growth mindset, grit, and resilience. When our students' social and emotional needs are met, they can optimally focus on learning academic skills and actualizing their potential.

As a parent/guardian, you can support your child’s SEL growth at home, too! Please view our monthly character traits at the link below and join in the conversations about each trait at home! What does each character trait look like in our homes and workplaces? I look forward to working with you and your students as they journey through their years at Bowie Primary.

Why Elementary School Counselors?

Elementary school years set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, counselors work as a team with the school staff, parents and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere. By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, school counselors can help all children achieve academic success.
