Student Arrival:

  • The doors will open at 7:30 am each morning.
  • Calvert Street is a one way street every day from 7:00-9:00 am and from 2:00-4:00 pm
  • Mitchell Street is blocked off for morning drop off and afternoon dismissal.
  • Head Start 3, Head Start 4, and Pre-K car riders will be dropped off at the north entrance on Calvert Street in one single file line. Officer Fulcher or one of our staff members will help direct traffic, helping to ensure the safety of our students, as well as establish routines and procedures, i.e. not blocking the drive to the parking lot. Please stay in your cars and pull forward slowly with the traffic. Douglass staff will open and unload three vehicles at a time. After the students from those three vehicles are safely on the sidewalk, we will let those three vehicles pull forward and motion for the next three vehicles to pull forward to let their children out of the vehicle.
  • Please have your child on the passenger side of the vehicle ready to exit when it is your turn.
  • With the school start time being at 7:50 am, Douglass faculty and staff will not be able to stay and get students out of the car past 7:50 am.
  • For safety reasons, please do not drop your child off without a staff person being outside to walk them inside. After 7:50 am, a parent must walk students into the building and sign them in to school.
  • Daycare vans and buses will drop off students at the south entrance on Freeman Street in one single file line.

Student Dismissal:

  • Calvert Street is a one way street every day from 7:00-9:00 am and from 2:00-4:00 pm.
  • Mitchell Street is blocked off for morning drop off and afternoon dismissal.
  • Please leave your child’s transportation tag attached to their backpack for the remainder of the school year. This helps us with safety and efficiency with all of our students.
  • Please hang or tape your visor/car tag on your rear view mirror for the Douglass traffic helpers to be able to easily see the color code, your child’s name and teacher’s name.
  • At 2:55 pm, Head Start 3 car riders will load on Calvert Street.
  • Traffic helpers will first only allow Head Start 3 vehicles through the line. All Head Start 4 and Pre-K vehicles will need to stay back.
  • The traffic helpers will direct the Head Start 3 vehicles, four at a time, to drive forward to the vehicle loading area, other staff members will walk the students out and help them into their vehicles. After those four vehicles are loaded, they will be directed to drive forward, and the next four cars will be directed to move up to the vehicle loading area, and so on until all Head Start 3 vehicles have been loaded and dismissed.
  • After all of the Head Start 3 vehicles have lined up in a single line, the traffic helpers will begin directing Head Start 4 and Pre-K vehicles into two lanes of traffic. The Head Start 4 vehicles will be in the lane closest to the sidewalk, while the Pre-K vehicles will be in the middle lane. Please listen and watch the traffic helpers for what to do.
  • At 3:10 pm Head Start 4 and Pre-K students will begin loading. We will direct Head Start 4 vehicles in the right lane, closest to the sidewalk, and Pre-K in the middle lane… the traffic helpers will direct four Head Start 4 and four Pre-K vehicles (side by side in the two lanes) to drive forward to the vehicle loading area, other staff members will walk the students out and help them into their vehicles. After those 8 vehicles (four Head Start 4 and four Pre-K) are loaded, they will be directed to drive forward, and the next 8 cars (four Head Start 4 and four Pre-K) will be directed to move up to the vehicle loading area, and so on until all students have loaded and dismissed.

Visitors

Visitors and guests are welcome at Douglass Early Childhood Learning Center. Sulphur Springs Independent School District began the implementation of the V-Soft Raptor Visitor Management System (commonly called Raptor) in the 2008-2009 school year. Raptor enables schools to produce visitor badges, monitor volunteer hours, and electronically check all visitors against registered sexual offender databases. The overall goal of this system is to increase the safety of each school. After the visitor’s identification card has been scanned into the system and a negative result (from sex offender databases) is received, a visitor badge will be printed for the visitor to wear during the visit.

For the safety of those within the school and to avoid disruption of instructional time, all visitors are expected to:

  • report to the main office first
  • be prepared to show identification, which will be scanned and submitted to the V-Soft Raptor Visitor Management System
  • wear the visitor badge printed for the visitor for the remainder of the visit
  • comply with all applicable district policies and procedures
  • demonstrate high standards of courtesy and conduct
