Eighth Grade Banquet

The Eighth Grade Banquet has been scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the middle school from 7:00-10:00 pm.  Beginning April 21st, tickets may be purchased for $15.00 each.  A delicious offering of finger foods and desserts will be available for the students to enjoy at the banquet.  The theme this year is “Hollywood.”
SSMS eighth grade students (only SSMS students) are eligible to attend the banquet if they:
  1. are in good academic standing. *Students who have failed one or more subjects during the fourth and fifth six week periods must obtain verification from their teachers that they are passing prior to the night of the banquet.
  2. are in good disciplinary standing. *Students who are in a disciplinary placement the days prior to the banquet will not be eligible to attend.
  3. have attended school for 90% of all school days.
  4. sign the form below (along with a parent/guardian) signifying understanding of the guidelines and returns the form to the office by May 2nd.
Traditionally, the banquet is an occasion for the eighth graders to “dress up”.  Examples of appropriate attire would be coat and ties for guys and “Sunday” or party dresses for girls.
Realizing that some “dressy” attire for females may not quite conform to our typical dress code policies, we would still require that you keep the following factors in mind. Modesty is our goal.
  1. Extremely low-cut dresses (front or back) are not appropriate.
  2. Bare midriffs or midriffs that are covered by “see through” material are not acceptable.
  3. Extremely short dress lengths are not acceptable.
  4. You should be able to move around in your dress without physically exposing yourself to others.
Please check with Mrs. Willis before wearing a dress that is questionable. Pre-approval of a dress that might possibly be out of compliance is a better option than being sent home to change on the night of the banquet.
NOTICE: For those of you who may not know, only SSMS faculty or contracted labor are allowed inside the building on banquet night. Parents or other family members must say good bye at the door.
